What OpenAPI is
OpenAPI (formerly Swagger) is the standard machine-readable format for REST APIs: openapi.json describes every endpoint, method, parameter, schema and server. Teams share these specs to generate clients, docs and tests — and to argue about what the API actually does.
What this viewer does
- Parses JSON (convert YAML to JSON first if needed) and lists every path with its methods.
- Shows summary/description and parameter counts per operation; security blocks remain visible in the raw spec if you need to check them.
- Stays local — API specs often contain internal URLs and schemas; nothing leaves your tab.
- Fast browse — for full interactive docs (try-it-out, model schemas), use Swagger UI or Stoplight; this is the quick-look tool.
Quick checks
- Does every path have a
getwhere you expected one? - Are parameters defined at path level vs operation level (a classic inconsistency)?
- Is there a
securityblock — and does the auth scheme match your client library? - Version mismatches: the
info.versionfield tells you which spec iteration you're looking at.
