How to convert percentage to GPA
Every school converts percentage grades differently, which is why the same transcript can produce different GPAs depending on the scale. The most common approaches:
- US standard: 90–100 = A (4.0), 80–89 = B (3.0), 70–79 = C (2.0), 60–69 = D (1.0), below 60 = F (0.0).
- US letter scale with +/− (common in high schools): finer bands with A+ (97+), A (93–96), A− (90–92), B+ (87–89), and so on. This calculator does not add AP/IB bonus points — use your school’s weighted table if it uses a 5.0 scale.
- China: many universities map 90+ to 4.0, 85–89 to 3.7, 82–84 to 3.3, 78–81 to 3.0; others (like USTC-style) use a 4.3 scale with 95+ = 4.3.
- UK: 70+ = First-class (≈4.0), 60–69 = Upper second (≈3.3), 50–59 = Lower second (≈3.0), 40–49 = Third (≈2.0).
- India: commonly 75+ = A, 60–74 = B+, 50–59 = B, 40–49 = C.
Weighted GPA with credits
If a course is worth 4 credits and another is worth 2, a simple average misrepresents your transcript. The weighted GPA multiplies each course's grade points by its credits, sums everything, and divides by total credits. Add your courses above to compute it automatically.
Important
This is an estimate — when applying to universities abroad, always use the conversion table provided by the target institution. Many US universities evaluate international transcripts internally and may apply their own mapping.
