Timezones and DST
Timezones are not just fixed offsets. Daylight Saving Time (DST) shifts clocks forward in spring and back in autumn — at different dates in different countries. The same timezone, like America/New_York, can be UTC-5 in winter and UTC-4 in summer. This converter uses your browser's Intl API, which knows the exact DST rules for every timezone.
Common abbreviations
- UTC — Coordinated Universal Time (no DST).
- ET / EST / EDT — Eastern Time: UTC-5 (EST) / UTC-4 (EDT).
- PT / PST / PDT — Pacific Time: UTC-8 (PST) / UTC-7 (PDT).
- CET / CEST — Central European Time: UTC+1 / UTC+2.
- JST — Japan Standard Time: UTC+9 (no DST).
Tip: use IANA timezone IDs (like Asia/Shanghai) for the most reliable results. The dropdown lists them all.
